yon key in between 1 and 3 is troubling me

so I bought this new laptop lastweek from office depot. It is an HP, I declined any in-store warranty and now a week later the key in between one and three is hard to press, I have to really mash it to make it work and so I stopped using it because I am afraid to break it. Even though I declined the "extended warranties" does this still have some kind of warranty on it, either through hp or office depot? I am most distressed, I am unable to add one and one correctly, or even subtract three from five!

I would assume that you would have at least a 30 day warranty through Office Depot, and at least a one year through HP. Is there anything stuck behind the key?

Without knowing the model number I cannot tell you the length of the laptop warranty. All laptops I have come across come with at least a 90 day warranty more with a 90/1 and even more with a 1/1 warranty. Office depot I am sure offers a 30 day return policy or something close to that.. I would return the unit to your office depot and tell them I bought this the other day and I want to exchange it for another unit. The keys on it sticks already..

they may charge a 15% of an open-box item( in Best Buy and Circuit City). Im not sure what Office Depot gonna do...just bring it back and ask them.

There is no restocking if you bring it back and get another one. If you want your money back, then they will charge you a restocking fee. If this was an older laptop, then you can get the keyboard changed out, but since it is new, just go trade it out

I really do not want to take it back, I already have a lot of information on here that would be inconvenient to replace. Plus, I love the computer it just.. has a stuck key.

Zulaab, The model number is a HP Pavilion Tx2000, I will be leaving to come back to houston for a week veeeeery early tomorrow morning, but I bought it here in Missouri. Do you all think I could have it repaired at an office depot is Houston? I really don't want another one, I just want this one fixed. I need to just take a minute to go in there probably. If I only had a minute =(

it acts like something could be behind it, but I dont know what or how.. the keys are pretty close together. bleh.

Have you tried popping the key off to have a gander under it? I had to do that to my laptop once.

So heres an update,
Office Depot said I would need to go through HP to address the issue, I called up HP and explained to them the situation which had elevated to this..

the number two key started working.... then the next day the x key stopped working... then it started working the next day and then the "a" key stopped working.. it was at this point I called hp, they have mailed a box to return the laptop to my missouri address but.. well.. now everything is working fine. If I mail the laptop in I will be without it for ten days and that is really not good, I have pretty much my whole business on this laptop, I could make it without it but.. I really rely on it. And it is also working fine now. I dont know what to do if I should just ignore it, or send it in anyways "just in case" its like when you get sick enough to finally make a doctors appointment then suddenly get better right before you see them.
