You're right, I am using them to cycle the tank. Goldfish are pretty tough though, so I think they'll make it. The tank they are in is a 30G long. I started up a 55G yesterday though, so there is more room available. And, since I had some extra space available, I bought three more fish today.

That's gonna have to be it for awhile, unless I find some really nice calico orandas somewhere. Those are my favorite goldfish.

Glad you got the second one set up, too! Congrats. There's nothing like new tanks and being re-invigorated again, it's a good feeling.

Pictures of that one would not go amiss either, I'm sure!!

I have to say, I'm looking forward to updates and hearing about your goldfish...I've never really kept them either, but I passed up a goldfish once at a LFS (calico?-ish? type, probably not very special) that had a *perfect* moustache, and I've regretted it ever since. I still scan the goldfish tanks, keeping an eye out for another one... If I find one, he's mine.

Welcome to the box! Once a fish nut, always a fish nut - if never goes away entirely If you can find someone close to you with some established filter media, that will help establish your bacteria and not be so rough on the little guys. Of course you can buy the products at LFS with live bacteria in it, and Petco sells the Bio-Zyme which is dry but activates upon hitting water - can add to filter media.

Good luck and I personally LOVE calico goldies!
              Thanks so much,

Thanks Lydia, I've used that trick before but hadn't thought of it since I started the tanks back up. I do know where I can get a little water and gravel from an established tank. I'm gonna do that ASAP.

Get some filter sponge squeeze! It'll do you a lot more good than tank water...that's liquid gold juju in there.
