  • Hey All

Hey everybody! Just signed up for the site. I've looked at it a few times over the years when researching things but never really got active. I've been a freshwater guy for years, recently got into reef tanks as well. Currently have 4 tanks. Sorry for the picture quality - only so much I can do with the Droid. 200 Gallon Freshwater - Mixed, Angels, Rams (electric blue, balloon, and misc others), plecosaurus, molly's, Silver Dollar and others. Tank is 6' by 2' tall so you can get an idea how big the fish are.

70 Gallon Discuss tank - 8 discuss, 2 mated pairs, cardinals and electric blue rams.

And my reef tank - 70 gallon with 15 gallon sump refugium. True Onyx Clowns (mated), 2 purple and 2 regular firefish, Blue Eyed yellow goby, Purple tang, Fairy Wrasse, Blue damsel and misc soft/LPS corals and a monti cap.

u can tell which one I'm addicted too at this junction. Wife is also a big fish gal. She's mostly into the discuss and freshwater though.

Yeah MARSH Reef is my normal hangout, but I like the freshwater discussions here too so thought I'd join in.

Thanks! I wish everything wasn't so "earth toned" makes it look natural, but really dingy. I'll rescape it one of these days but that's going to be a major undertaking and chore. The monster pleco actually did most of the sand scaping himself.

I've actually been thinking about doing a biotope for the discuss. A rimless cube tank with a sump/fuge full of plants and only amazonian fish. Though I might not go the rimless because I know the discuss can get airborne if spooked. Haven't completely thought it out yet....

That would be so beautiful. I have a Tapajo basin (of the Amazon) biotope right now with geophagus orange heads, red scalare, and various tetras and corys. I just love Amazonian fish. But yes, it has a top.

We have been tossing around the idea of an Orinoco biotope with Rams or Lyretailed Checkerboards, I was thinking blackwater using RO and additives to acheive my desired PH. Use Manzanita vertically throughout with only minimal LED spotlighting, no plants and probably PFS for substrate. Still in the rougher idea spitballing stages still and I am wanting to play with some of the Ph reducing substrates to see how they might due in a setup long term.
