  • New Guy here

Hello, I'm new here, and less than a years experience with keeping an aquarium, but thanks to a really cool kat, now have a 125 gallon tank and about 13 fish.

I have a mating pair of Jack Dempseys and Oscars, and quite a few fish I don't know the name of (came with the tank). I know I still have a lot to learn, and am looking forward to doing just that on this site.

Quick question: is it normal for a Jack Dempsey that is a third of the size of an eight inch Oscar to be the dominant fish in the tank? Either way, he is, which I found pretty surprising.

      Welcome.
Back in the day, I had a 4" electric blue jack dempsey that controlled my 125g south American tank. This included an 8" Oscar and a 6" Texas Cichlid. Oscars are usually pretty chill. Post some pics please!!!

Yeah, everybody is curious about the screen name, which I also use on another forum. Somehow, I got the nickname Grimace in the Marines. It became my radio call sign, I got used to it, so I use it

Finally got a pic of my pride and joy, Brutus. He about a 6 inch Jack Dempsey that looks great, but he's so darn camera shy. I find it ironic that such a predator would prefer to hide so much. I guess that's how he's king of the tank with such a size disadvantage, guerrilla warfare, lol.CIMG0075.jpg He's dead center of the tank. I really wish my phone took better pictures
