Re: angels-remove the slate with eggs or leave it?
Leave them in the tank the first time around.. Angels once they spawn will do it again.
This will make them more eager to make sure that the eggs stay around the second time around.
If you remove them then you will have raise them from fry all the way up and each time they lay eggs and you want to keep them you will have to do the whole process again. Its up to you... i would suggest leave them the first few times in to see if they learn.

Re: angels-remove the slate with eggs or leave it?
This is really a personal choice as to whether you want the pair to parent raise or if you want to raise the fry yourself. I personally prefer to let the parents raise the fry. My experience has been that very few pairs are successful at their first try to raise fry. For me, it's been a progressive improvement from spawn to spawn with the first spawn usually getting eaten right after the eggs are laid, to the eggs lasting a couple of days, then lasting to wiggler stage and finally reaching free swimming. Generally if I have a pair that will not parent raise after six or seven spawns I resign myself to the fact they probably never will. Mine will spawn every 10 to 14 days, sometimes every seven days. If you decide to pull the slate and raise them yourself, there are several excellent threads here and on other forums. Here's a link to one on the TAFII Forum TAFII Raising Fry Artificially. If you have any other questions you can post them here as well, there are several of us who raise "the other cichlid"

I decided to remove it, dont think things are loking good but will check with them later. Next time I think I will leave it up to the parents unless they start eating them. I think I might have messed it all up for this pair.

I doubt you messed it up for the pair, they will spawn again and again and again, etc. If you do pull the slate the next time, be sure to add some meth blue to the water to help control any fungusing and make sure you you have adequate air flow around the slate. I have used hydrogen peroxide a few times instead of meth blue with acceptable success. Being basically lazy
, I always prefer parent raisers :) .
What is happening with the eggs? Are all of them turning white or just a few?Reasoning with some people is like trying to nail jello to a wall...

Congrats man. I just got my first Angel eggs myself yesterday, but all the eggs got eaten overnight. I've raised guppy fry before though and it took a couple of trys to figure out the best way for the young to survive. Good thing thought with the Angels if you screw up, or misfortune just falls upon the young, you will have plenty of future opportunities to breed the fish. What color/type angels do you have?

I have about a 10 fry left after trying to pull them but will leave them next time to see what happens. Parents are I think what is called marbled. Black/white. The male is a pearl scale.

Bear in mind that you might have 2 females. They can still lay eggs and they will eventually turn white. If its a pair though, use more that the recommended amount of Methylene blue. Set an airstone so that a stream of bubbles runs beside the eggs, not over. We like to pull the eggs if we can.Charles Jones

No....methylene blue will absolutely destroy all biological filtration in the main tank.Charles Jones

Good to know! I do think where I went wrong though was I didnt keep the blue in the water I let it fade out. I am hoping for better luck next time, I already have two people(one being a lfs) that is wanting them.

Re: angels-remove the slate with eggs or leave it?
Since I am a noob to Angel breeding, what does the methylene blue do? I've used medications before containing the chemical before to try and kill fungul infections (or viral, not sure).
I have heard how one female will lay eggs and the other FEMALE will simulate fertilizing them. I am pretty sure I have opposite sex types since one is larger and the nose is shaped different. But I think the male went and ate all the eggs during/after fertilizing them. I know this ain't easy and I am not expecting anything for the first few spawns.

Methylene blue does just the same with the eggs...it's a fungus preventative. I use at least double the dose. I'll measure next time. I kind of go by color.Charles Jones
