    Re: Tunnel Tank

thanks for the information on that Cope.....i'll be anxious to see if they do venture thru it.....i really like the set up....that would be so cool to have a set up like that as a headboard for my bed so i could lay there and watch the fish swim back and forth....so i hope it works and if it does.....i might just have to set one of those up too......good luck.....
second thought....maybe a nano powerhead would put nice water movement thru the tube and thus the fishies would feel more comfortable swimming in it.....just a thought.....those little nano powerheads are really small and wouldn't take up alot of room in the corner of it......
keep us updated.....i can't wait to see them swimming thru it.....i think spot's idea of top water dwelling fishies just might work.....

spot, no ..... no plastic store near us.... AC Placstics is on Northdale ..just off Dixie Dr.... by mykawa and 610.....

AND yes we have succsess.... the fish have gone thru... I actually witness one this morn.... and some of the white fish are now in the other tank.. so something happened over night..... .. and I think a CAK will be added soon....

and I was thinking (worrying) last night about the support that EK mentioned..... thinking.. that is a lot of weight for the side of this little 10 gallon... I was afraid that it might be too heavy and soon crack.... so this morn I cut a piece of plexi for each tank and made a support for the tunnel......
Had about 900 gallons now I am tired and selling them off...

That is very nice.  Now it will be true success if I we can change your music preference.

That's great, good job!  Maybe you could make one that connects to three tanks, just trying to keep you busy and out of trouble  8) .

Cope -- how you get water into the tube ?  Is there a valve on top (hidden) to pull out the air ?

He gets the water out just like priming a u-tube for an overflow.  Uses an air tube and sucks the air out causing water to take the airs place.

                    Re: Tunnel Tank

cool!  glad they're using the tunnel!  I'll have to see if I can't get out of here early enough to swing by this week.  At lunchtime today, I sat with my trusty pencil/paper and sketched up one with a slight variation.  Imagine a wall with a hole in it, (perhaps framed like a window, and maybe even curtains to make you think your at the bottom of a lake!) and the tunnel within the hole.  The sides would have to be somewhat "L" shaped to accomplish this, and plenty of cutting or bending of plexi too.  The backside of the wall would be where the 2 tanks would be (or even one very large long tank).   Just like you did, put gravel in the tube, and maybe some small driftwood.  not too much light cause cleaning algae out of the tunnel would be quite difficult.  Maybe some wimpy lights and java moss/fern.  In one end, a small pump, to create a nice current.  If you use large enough end tanks, quite a variety of fish could be within, so you might not see the same fish for a week, but rather an everchanging selection of stock.

Very cool Cope. This is probably a dumb question but is there any overflow contingency?
