 Good one.  

 I always get bummed when fish die that I've had for a while.  Dirty was one of my trained fish.  

 I don't know if this happens with all tanks, but I always put their food in the same corner of the tank.  I know when they are hungry 'cause they all gather & swim in the same corner around feeding time.  It's a neat little trick.

Fish euthanasia is one of those issues where you will find almost as many opinions and techniques as there are people to ask.  The method I prefer uses clove oil and vodka... the clove oil completely sedates them and the vodka ensures that they don't wake up.  This seems to be a very quiet, peaceful, and humane way to accomplish an awful task.

I can think of better uses for vodka.....
