  • Betta Question

I have a half-moon Betta at my work. I clean his tank every week. He gets fed twice a day since he doesn't get fed on the weekends. Well my husband and I are going out of town this Thursday. We will be gone 11 days. I have him in a small Betta Box tank. We do have a 10gallon empty tank at home. I am worried about him not having a water change and it hurting him. Should I take him home and put him in the 10g tank? It is unfiltered. What is going to be my best option while we are gone?

i have seen them sitting un a cup of water for longer than that...not optimal but he would probably live. that being said i would put him in the 10 gallon at home so he has more water volume, especailly if you plan on some sort of automatic or vacation feeder

We don't have anyone who can. But the tank will be right next to our other tank that has fish in it.

I don't trust those "vacation feedes"... think that stuff would foul the water more than anything.

Myjohnson- I would prefer not to have a Betta Battle while I'm gone. lol

We have those feeder blocks. Are those ok or are they not good? We use them on our other tanks while we were gone for a few days and our fish did ok.

Chris and Holly, I don't mind babysitting this guy for you as long as you tell me what to do. Just drop him off and pick him up when y'all get back.

What kind of other fish do you have? unless they are monster fish, battas can go in a tank with other fish. Just not another male batta. Female battas can be put together. As many as 8 in a tank.

As for feeder blocks, get you a timed feeder. they work better for the fish. 11 day is a long time on a feeder block....

                          11 days is nothing.

I actually wouldn't feed the betta at all.

Really not. I went to Belize for three weeks and my fish didnt eat. Came home with my fish in perfect shape. They ate like wolves when I fed them but they do fine. And I had peacock bass, crappie, largemouth bass, petenia splendida in the same tank.

Aww thanks for suggesting Sunny! We are just going to set him up in the 10g and my mom actually said she will go and check on them for us. We have baby fry that will need to be fed all the time anyways. I will have to get Chris to look into getting the automatic feeder.
