  • Memorial villages water

I have had an issue for years with Memorial Villages water.

To have uneventful water changes, i have found i need about 5x the normal dosage of Prime. Less than 5x the normal dosage and my fish go to the top gasping for air. Also, if I attempt more than a 30% water change, I have the same problem - fish at the top gasping for air. Recently, I attempted a large water change, maybe 50% or so, using about 5x the normal Prime dosage, with a bunch of fry, and lost them all.

Below is the link for Memorial Villages water:

I would love to add water straight to the tank and/or use a normal amount of dechlorinator. Thank in advance for the experience or help.

Is the water aged? Or fresh outs of the tap?

Do you shut off all your filters when you do a water change?
I ate my fish that died.

Usually, I put water from the tap in to a large trash can, decholinate with Prime, and then put in tanks. Two tanks - 58 and 75 gallons. I usually do a 25-30% water change. I do not turn off the filters. Without about 5 times normal Prime dosage I will have problems as stated above.

I used to have discus. I would age the water for a day in the trash can. This worked well and I could do 50% water changes.

I would love to figure out a way to eliminate the trash can, put water directly in the tank adding Prime at the same time, and use a normal amount of dechlorinator.

Thanks for you interest and help so far.

Aerate the trash can of water while it "ages"
