  • GIANT Aquarium Tour

My wife and I just got back from California, and visiting The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. I highly recommend visiting if you get the chance. We spent hours walking around and just before leaving decided to ask about a tour they offer. Well, our luck was good. The tour was suppose to start in 10 minutes and they had no one signed up for it, so my wife and i signed up and got a private full access tour of the entire facility. Here are some of my pics from behind the glass. the major pics are from a Giant tank they have. check out the lights.

The quarantine tanks are huge (3000 gal)

They grow their own plankton and brine shrimp

I also liked the jelly fish exhibit

The baby jellies are in cool tanks that are designed for a special type of flow that goes around the tank

And lastly was a cool tank of cleaner shrimp my wife and I got to put our hands in and get cleaned.

Wanted to add that the filter systems for many of the large tanks was handled by pool filter equipment. They also had VERY LARGE tanks outside that ran water through sand filters and then ran it back into the aquariums. The lighting was done with what they called studio lights. They said they get them from the place that provide lights for Hollywood movies and such.

They saw the whale movie on the wall and ceiling of the lobby area. We had to wait for it to stop before we could start our tour.
