  • Tank Advice Needed

First, Tenecor is having a 30% off sale this week only.

Second, which tank size would you recommend for 2 to 3 groups of trophs (or 2 groups and a group of petros) - COMFORTABLY!

Length would either be 96" or 120" - I have a nice wall to fit this on, adn I'm leaning to the 86 due to less overall cost

The hard part is the length and width - I need one of those dimensions to be 30" so I'm looking at one of the following...

    1. 96L x 48W x 30H
    2. 96L X 30W X 36H
    3. 96L X 36W X 30H
    4. 96L X 30W X 30H

I would do #3 or #4. #3 is my first choice, staying away from super tall tanks that may bow.

What will we be keeping in this tank? different fish would do better with different style tanks. for example discus like tall tanks but a stingray would need more depth than height. personally, I love tanks that are just as tall as they are deep, so i'll vote for the 96x30x30

never mind, trophs and petros. I guess it would help if I read the whole post.

Having kept these fish, and currently having 2-300 gallon tanks one at 10ft and the other at 8ft....

I would tell you that in my honest opinion, for Trophs the 8ft is not a problem. Petros, depending on which variant, 10ft might not be enough. MY Tri-color male runs 9.5 feet of the tank. On the flip side, my Trewavasae Colony, has several males at 8", and they co-habitate well.

For Depth, .. I would go 30" It just gives so much more depth to the tank. Both my tanks are 24", and I wish I had the 30, because I got some big freaking rocks in the garage I would love to use if I had the room.

For Height...30" and taller than that, and it is a serious pain in the *** to clean the bottom, re-deco rocks, and just a big pain.

            So,,,my suggestion is this...

            8ft (96") x 30" x 30" if just having Trophs, or a sinlge mild manered Petro.

10ft (120") x 30" x30" if having Trophs, and or anything Petro variant you want, except Blue Giants.

One final word... if you got the room...go for the biggest you can fit.

If you can honestly fit that 8ft x 4ft x 30" then GO FOR IT... It will weigh a ton though.

Oh and one last thing... if you want the tank to fit thru a doorway...atleast one dimension has to be 30". This will give some room for fingers and some angle.

Otherwise, make sure you got a sliding glass door, bay window, or somekind of double door to bring it thru.

Two people can move a 30 x30 Acrylic tank but it gets harder to see and handle if you go higher or wider than those dims. 8ft or 10ft does not matter

I would basethe decisition on. 1- what the best for the fish 2- What going to be the least pain in the A** to clean. Tall tanks suck to clean!

Completely agree with this one - which is why the 30" part so important. It is a straight through the door shot, now turns or anything for a good 20 feet from the door.

I checked out the acrylic calculators that I found, and many are stating that a tank this size need to be 1" to 1.25" thick. Tenecor only uses .75" in that construction from my understanding. It is also a little more cost prohibitive (although it would great against the wall).

Yeah, the 36" tall is out. I was dreaming in that direction because I see how much the tropheus used all 4' depth of the pond.
