Which do you think is the better of the two. As far as Filter-Pumps go. Why you would buy one vs. the other. Which is easier to clean and maintain. More bang for your buck. Etc. etc. Let the debate begin.

No contest here. I've had 2 different Fluval canisters last only a year as the motors burned out. They make better doorstops. Spend the extra money and go with Eheim.PLECOS SUCK!

Okay. This is what i'm wanting to hear. Doorstop's. I've got ton's of gadget's that made good doorstop's. Thank's Nick. I need more feedback. How about those of you that feel Eheim makes good Trotline weight's. I need opinion overload.Lori's husband Bill.

Where do I get popcorn for this discussion? I like Fluval, but have never owned an Eheim. I would say both are good, but the Fluval 404 I have is very easy to service. I just got an FX5 but have not hooked it up yet. From what I have researched the FX5 is the highest rated filter (just personal research).Fishtafarian- Fish are more than just a hobby, they are an obsession.

Eheim is pretty much the industry standard, although I have a Fluval FX5 on my 120 and it works great. Don't let cost be your only deciding factor though, because while the Fluval are cheaper, they don't include the media (which can get expensive when you're packing up a large filter like a 2262 or an FX5) while the Eheims do I believe ( I know my dads 2217 came with the media included.)Haiku's are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense

I have several Eheim classics: 2215, 2217, and 2260s. I love them. I saw some some 30 year old eheim 2260s working while I toured behind the scenes at the Houston Zoo.The Eheims made in China aren't quite as nice as the old ones made in Germany . . . little things like the tubing isn't as thick . . . all the parts aren't always in the box, etc. . . but they are still better than the Fluvals. I've had the (4)03 and (4)04 series and have had issues with most of the canisters after several years. I've had several Renas for 4+ years with no problems.
To summarize, one word: Eheim.Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I have two Eheims now and nothing but good experience with both. I bought both used. If they got abused before I owned them, I can't tell. Consistently reliable and easy to maintain.
I have no experience with Fluval.
I have read many positive posts about Rena xp3 and xp4.Jarrod - Houston, Texas
150 gallon - my African cichlid monster tank (I know it isn't a big as yours)

3 gallon - planted red cherry shrimp breeder

I have two Eheims and they are GREAT, as long as they're plugged in and primed. I HATE cleaning them with a passion. They are almost impossible to get re-primed. My 2213 isn't that bad, but my Pro-2 is a nightmare. I truly hate that filter when it's time to clean it. I won't buy another Eheim unless it's a GREAT deal.
Now, the XPs I LOVE. I've had an XP3 for a few years and I haven't had one issue with it. Priming is super easy and it works great. I would get an XP over an Eheim any day.So many things can be a mystery, when all we're seeking is freedom...
