if the fish are healthy and water params are good i would wait it out and see if it goes away on its own.

The fish seem happy. they are all over the tank not just pacing the walls. i was just worried that what ever it is was going to kill my most expensive fish, because they were eating it when it flaked off.

Weird stuff can grow when a tank is cycling. I think I saw something similar when my aunt's tank was trying to cycle.
