I know some folks like to use egg crate to protect the bottom of their tanks from deep scratch's when using heavy rocks as part of the decor or substrate, but I did not think too many used it with sand.
It would seem to serve no purpose under a bed of sand...??

It is a stable and smart foundation, in case one wanted to add rocks on top of the sand later.....
But again, you need to sift your sand now and then to keep harmful pockets of gases from building in your sand/substrate...

I am going to use eggcrate on my Tanganyikan tanks because they dig so much and I am planning some large rock structures that I would to fall over.Richard DouglasComment
