i put some water clarifier into my tank and now its really nasty looking. does anyone kno why it does this? do i have to redo my tank a 3rd time?? will the tank clear up after a few hours??!

give it a couple hours, because most of those clarifiers work by binding the particales too small to be filtered to other larger particals, and thus able to be sucked into and captured by filter medium. having said that it looks worse, because they are big clumps rather than little particles. but if in 3 hours it's not clearing significantly, i'd do a 50% water change.
some of those chemicals also kill the beneficial bacteria, creating a death "haze". that can be fixed with a water change as well.
give it a bit, then reassess.140 New World Cichlids

How brackish are we talking? cause i have mildly brackish water for my cichlids (they are hapiest that way, go figure) and don't consider it brackish.

1.06 sg brackish. i think the clearifier binds to the salt water and turned it into clumps. thats why it looks nasty.Comment

thats exactly what it does.
i would say wait about an hour or two, then do one more 50% water change. leave it overnight. it shouldn't hurt the fish, because the chemical is safe, just makes the water nasty lookin. by running it overnight, it shouldn't shock the fish. then again, reassess in the morning. if it's still this bad by morning, start over.140 New World Cichlids
