        • Some update shots havent really done anything except add some more rummy noses and cardinals. I think I have about 50 of both now and will add some more as I get more money. Waiting on some more wilds. I have added a small amount of peat that I picked up from a garden center that Nacra recommended. I will slowly increase the amount as I become more comfortable with it and the same with the fish.

          • Looks great, Brian. I love the two different groups of teras. I think their schooling action is so cool. Did you add the almond leaves and peat to acidify the water? If so, how are you pre-treating your new water for water changes?

            • Yeah using them to lower the pH and give it more of a tea color. I wasnt planning on pretreating I figured I will treat it like my planted tanks on CO2 as I only change about 30-40% weekly and I read that increasing pH isnt really harmful to fish its the decrease that is if its to fast.

              • Added about 3-5 lbs of peat to my Eheim yesterday, there is no changes in water color or pH yet. I took a video of the discus.

                • So pretty! I love how the cardinals schooled together. The cories look great, too. Nice to see a tank with a nice sized group of them. The discus are beautiful, too, of course.

                        • I am placing an order for the ATO, heater, pump, and refract today. I need to pick up a 5g tank. I only have 9 corys but will be adding 8 more once I break down the other tank. There is about 100 tetras want another 40-60 and I need a few more discus

The almond leaves, were those strictly for aesthetic effect or do they buffer the water also? EDIT: Found this thread you started, which answers my question: http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforum...-Almond-Leaves

The peat.. That's obviously to soften the water and lower the ph, yes? How did you add it to the 2262? In a bag?

Also, you mention wanting more of a "tea" color.. were you talking about the color of the water? Are you just going for a more natural shade of color?

Overall, fantastic tank. Between you, Miguel, Matt, and a couple of other boxers, there is more than enough justification for a Discus and/or Planted tank tour!

                            • I'm telling you it's going to take a month to get that thing cycled. Just get the LR, sand, and a cheap pump. While it cycles you can order and install all the other stuff.

Sorry for the minor hijack......back on topic now.

You ever thought about doing an automatic water changer for the monster?

The IAL are more for aesthetic to mimic the rivers, but supposedly they help soften and lower the pH. I put the peat in a large bag. The tea color I am referring to is the color of the water to give it the more natural look of the black water biotope. I dont want it to dark then it wont be aesthetically pleasing as a show tank. Thanks for the complement
