  • Red Tail Sternella Pleco

Has anyone raised these from young to maturity? I have one from LFS that is a little beat up from the tank he was in. I'm nursing back to health in my quarantine isolation tank for the next few weeks.

How big do they grow. I'm under stocked in a 150G but I already have a one Common and one Snowball L201 in my big tank. The Snowball is a baby at 1.75" and Common is about 4" and Sternella is about 2".

The main center piece is my Discus community. Everything is getting along.

Will it be ok to introduce this species? I can't have one that uses Discus slime coat as a tasty treat once mature. I love the look of the fish but not at risk of other showcase species.

If it is the L114 which is the pleco most refer to as the Red Tail Sternella Pleco

They get up to 9 inches or so which takes quite a while for them to get that large, they are some what of a slow growing pleco. They are a carnivore which needs mainly a meat diet consisting of chopped clams & prawns are a favorite with some vegetable matter to balance the diet , Zuchinii, or something along that line. They prefer a dimly lit tank with a cave or two, they also like the soft acidic water like discus, but when large will produce alot of waste keep that in mind if keeping with discus.

I hope this info is helpful.
