  • Aww, Oscar love... so gentle

My entertainment, our Oscars. Our Oscars are pretty docile. Never aggressive with their tankmates, even tolerating the little teenage Banded Leporinus we just tossed in a few months ago.

For the last week or so, they've started chasing EVERYONE away from one side of the tank. Yesterday, they started cleaning slate & rocks. Not just one corner... ALL of it. Right after I fed them last night, they immediately went to lip locking, tail slapping & cleaning. When she would stop cleaning, he would gently nudge her, shake & twitch himself & she would do the same, slap her with his tail & get her to start cleaning again. Cleaning the rocks & slate, they've never done before.

They're only 15 months old, so they're probably still just practicing; nevertheless, it's fun to watch (2) foot long fish play house in their own entertaining way.

180g - 2 Red Oscars, 1 Tiger Oscar, 1 JD, Convicts, convicts & more convicts
    75g - 1 Silver Aro, 1 Mean Koi Angel
    50g - Various platy & mollies
    10g - 1 Green Spotted Puffer

I'm still wondering IF they do spawn, will I have to move everyone except them out of the tank? They're normally really chill but since they've started cleaning they're really getting into beast mode , which is totally out of the norm for them. Last night, Fat Boy open mouth chased the big male parrot (mouth to "I can't close my mouth") from one side of the tank to the other. Poor parrot was swimming for his life backwards, lol. I don't want them to hurt the other guys so I'm wondering if I need to prep another tank I have lying around... just in case. Gonna do some research, but yall's input would be awesome, too!

          Yup . . . they'll get hyper-aggressive
          Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Thanks, Tim. Better to be safe than sorry for sure, especially with these guys size in comparison with their tankmates. Just looked around the house to see where I can set up another 75....

Can I, temporarily & only if necessary, house the 2 banded Leoprinus, Sparticus the Plecostomus & 2 parrots in the established 75 with the 5 Koi Angels, 2 Kissing Gourami, 10 Danios, 3 Corys, 1 Rainbow Shark & 4 Neon Tetras? I don't have room for another 75 without tearing down 2 more 50+ gallon tanks. It being temporary and only for a short time, I'm just wondering if it would work.

I think they will be ok in with the angels. they will surely not in with breeding Oscars.

Hubby over-rode my decision to move everyone into the angel tank & told me to set up a 75 on the fireplace until I can find something to put the 55 on so... soon I'll be doing just that.

This morning Fat Boy & Fat Girl are actually biting the other fish . Bad fishies. Wish I could move the tank by myself. The guy who was going to come help me ended up at the car dealership after his window fell into his door on his car. Ugh. This should prove to be an adventure in itself.

Thanks, Troy. Much appreciated. My son is home, but sleeping since he works nights. After a failed first attempt at moving it, I'm gonna wait till he wakes up and take it from there, lol.

I agree with the decision to keep them separate, lepronius can be aggressive, i'd hate for anything to happen to your angels. as far as a stand, I built one for my 75g out of cinderblocks for about 40$.

Your Oscars look just like my husbands looked before they ate their tank mate & before the albino one died. I'm about to post my own Oscar story & ?s. good luck with yours!

Thanks. They now only share the tank with the pleco. I've moved everyone else out & am trying to find homes for the pink gouramis & the leporinus. They haven't spawned yet, but the dance continues! Good luck with yours, too!
