                • For a tank that was set up a week ago and with new substrate and that many fish I would think it's pretty clear looking.

Having an adequately stocked takes a bit of work when it comes to maintenance.

You make no sense... That many carnivores and at that size will produce much more waste and also introducing substrate will cloud up the water. The water was not changed in 5 days when I took the photos earlier. It's clear, you're probably looking at the glare in the tank.

Yes the fish have ich. I actually have 3 heaters set to 89+ and the temp only gets up to 80-82F hence the reason why I am buying a 300watt heater on Drsfostersmith

Edit: The heaters aren't enough to heat up the tank. I think there's two 75watt and one 50watt? not sure but all together it's only about 200watt at max. Definitely not enough to push the temps to about 86-88 with the a/c in the house running 75. I did dump a whole load of salt, so hopefully the fish last until the heater comes, but they've been eating so that's good. Planning on getting rid of the Silver Dollars either way. The lemon barbs are going to need the space

                      • The Silver Dollars got ich because of too much stress from being hunted down by hungry Pbass. From there, the big FH got ich but other than those, nothing else has ich. The larger fish have better immune systems and comparing the tank they were originally in, I'd say they love their new home much better.

Yeah it definitely needs more flow. I'm going to buy some bigger powerheads, but for now, those little 425gph nanos is all I have and will do.

Settle faster? What needs to settle? The fish are pretty much settled, if that's what you were mentioning.

I am planning to get a canister, but for now, I'm just going to run the w/d and the HOB. I think it's doing a fine job so far. Going to eventually get a 2262 after I get everything else.

                            • he is lacking there but for someone with no job I figure he is progressing fine.

I wouldn't stock tank like that with it being new everything and if I did there would be daily water changes going on for a while. It's actually really clean for the way it is stocked and how new it is.

Most don't stock a tank like I would so idunno. I try to not give advice as much as I use to cause my point of view is really far from "normal".

You seen my 200g tub today... 3xFX5, Mag9.5wet/dry, and that moonwalk air pump... that's on top of every other day water changes. Then again, no one goes out and buy a large enough group of fish like I would so it's hard to say.

To me, your 55g is damn near empty when it comes to stock load but to others it's overstocked.

                              • I can attest that my O tank is the messiest I have. They just shred their food & it goes everywhere! The other fish don't even try to eat until the O's have demolished what I put in. They don't have to even try, the food comes to them, lol. Combine that with the enormous poops from the O's (which look like mice size sausage links), the pleco (miles and miles of poop), the parrots poop, & the gouramis who seem to poop like machine gun fire and, before I removed the substrate, I was doing a daily vacuuming & top off, 50% water change every other week & a 100% water change a month just to keep up. It helped tremendously to remove the substrate and lay slate! Much easier on me & the water is much more clear.
