Hmmm... ok should I put another female in with the pair? I have lots of females 5 of 7 I bought were females!!

When I say "pair" they haven't actually paired off. They were in the 5gal alone..so I call them a pair! But there are 2 that do a little flair looking gesture at anyone that comes around them in the 75gal...

I never had any luck with polygamist males.....they always paired off and killed the remaining.

My Pink Daddy convict right now has spawned with three different mommy's and actually unlike what Ek says he has been VERY tolerable of the two others who he is not spawning with.  There is no question about it.  He is a polygamist for sure.   My latest clutch of eggs where eaten by mommy (#2) and I am pretty darn sure that mommy #1 is next in line, because she is ripe and Mommy #3 was only a week or two ago.

Took lunch...got 2 6" clay pots and some fake plants to fill the tank...I'm so excited!!

Sweet :)
You are going to see a little territorial disputes coming up when you put the pots in.  Make sure that the pots main opening (if you are laying them down) face towards the front of the aquarium.  This way you will know within seconds of looking inside if you have eggs or not.
My breeding house is all the way up against the front glass... they breed like rabbits and dont care I watch the whole thing...

I added the sandblasting sand in last night and the pots. I put the pots on either side of the tank where the opening is faced towards that side glasses. The water is pretty cloudy (guess I didn't rinse the sand good enough!) So I'm letting the water filter out before doing anything else.

I checked on the particular pair I plan on moving. They are making little pits in the sand in the 75gal and have picked a spot that is right against the side of the glass. I hope I can get them out of there before they actually breed. I know they probably won't have a chance when those cats come out at night  8O

I decided to only put the one pair in the tank. I've considered putting some top schoolers or possibly a pleco in the tank with them. I'm not sure though, but I know I'll want something else in the tank!! What about long fin zebra danios?? I'd rather add them all together than to get the pair used to being alone and then dropping a school into "their" tank. Or add the zebra's first and then put the pair in after I know it's completely cycled?? What do you think??

Hmmm...Don't know if longfins would be a good idea. Danios are incredibly fast, but with the longer fins they might be easier to catch than those with shorter fins (easier to grab onto), and just in case the convicts need to chase them away sometime, it would be good to be able to escape.  :)  But just regular danios would probably be all right.

I think either adding the danios first or both at the same time is the way to go. If you add the convicts first they might think it's an intrusion when other fish are added.

Sorry, I was refering to a "hi-fin zebra" but what about a regular zebra? Would they evenutally become a food to the cons? Giants can get up to 6 inches, is there enough space for them if I got about 6 or so?

Hi-fin's aren't the same as long-fins? I thought they were, who knows.  :)  But I think they're pretty similar, right? Longer fins than normal?

Yeah, giant danios can get pretty big, and in a 29 I don't think they would fit in time. Especially since you would need to get at least 6.

Oh, I was correcting myself from saying "long fin" to "hi-fin" (that's what I read online was "hi-fin").

What about rainbows or congos in the 29gal?

I picked up 8 regular zebra danios on lunch and took them home. I added them in with my rams!! My daughter loves the zebras so I couldn't resist!!!

Can I put a pair of pinks and a pair of blacks together in that 29???  ray:

Personally that is about all I would add in there.. make sure that you have TWO defined boundries where they cannot see each other when they are just hovering over the subtract..  ie make sure that you have large rock in the middle, or a lot plants etc...  this way one pair on each side.  You have two caves on each end correct ?
This will resolve their spawning needs too.  They will out near the caves for the most part.
