  • A planted Discus tank build..

Dear all, I am planning to start a planted discus tank. This will be my first venture into plants and discus so it will be lots of trial and errors (hopefully with help from here it'll be a lot less errors..)

I'll post progress as a go and will be asking lots of questions :)

Any good suggestions, tips or pointers to start?

Oh, I'll be doing this along with my 125 gallon saltwater build as well so it will take time..

    Thanks,

    Hangman.

If a planted Discus tank is your goal, you can ease the odds of failure if you start with adult or sub-adult Discus..either will have their ups and downs, but anything younger(cheaper) will prove difficult, and will be fraught with long term expense in med's and such. I don't know much about discus, but I was at a fish shop in stafford this weekend and they had a very large discus selection. The prices on them were also the cheapest I've seen and the fish looked very healthy.

Houston Aquarium Warehouse has a good selection and pricing, definately go with adults and be patient enough to put them in a mature aquarium. stable water parameters are a must.

to careful with plants and Discus. Generally plants do not like it above 84 degrees. Discus don't like below 82 degrees.

They are the guys that know.

I can't go to houston aquarium warehouse now. I will impulse buy and that would not be good.
looking forward to seeing your tank.
                  Good luck...

Thanks everyone for all the tips and encouragement. Will definitely take time to do this slowly and right. The tanks is cycling right now so will pobably be a couple of months before its ready for fish. Plus I am still debating how I want to aquascape the tank.

Also, I am working on the DW to buy into my plan of having the 125 reef tank built-in into our living room..

                    Thanks all...
