  • New Old Guy Thinking of Anglefish Again!

I just joined this group as I am thinking of getting into Anglefish again. I've been out of the hobby for a long time and a lot has changed since then. (I am not sure always for the better). I used to raise Anglefish when I lived in Chicago.  I still have a few tanks but will need to upgrade filters, etc if I really get back into this hobby again. I only have an interest in Freshwater Anglefish and only those looking similar to wild ones.  In other words those close to looking like silvers with natural full stripes. (Smokey is OK). I can't stand most of the bastardized types available today. They totally turn me off. I'm not sure what clubs are active and when they meet in the Houston area. I live in Kingwood, on the NE side of town. I'm 73 years old and have a bunch of different interests and keep extremely busy. I'm also not "aware" of the better fish stores in town either. As I said, I've been out of the loop for a number of years and never was into it here in Houston.  I guess I am pritty opinionated these days and set in my ways. My other interests are home brewing, ham radio, and experimental aircraft. I'm just now in the final stages of finishing my lake house up on lake Livingston. I'm wondering if there are any other types like me around this city?

Wow! Welcome to HFB! Happy to have you. I know you'll enjoy reading much of what goes on here and looking at the pictures of our tanks. I absolutely love angelfish too, and I'm hoping to start another angels tank within the next 6 months or so.

Welcome to the box! You never leave this life style. The angel fish huh? Love these fish. as a kid growing up I had at least 5 in an aquarium at any giving time. More in to cichlids now but angelfish will always hold a place. Ask question's, dive in and swim with the fish, and let us know if you need anything.

        Welcome aboard!

Your best bet is to get wild caught scalare or altums if you want natural forms. We are coming up on the season for them so if interested I'd get everything set-up and ready to go for them now. Be warned though...they are MUCH more expensive than your standard angel (but worth it).

Just some tid bit... angels are probably one of the most popular CICHLIDS in the hobby.

Welcome to Texas Lee and welcome to HFB. I am an angel fish guy. I have had all three tipes(Altum, Scalare, and Leopoldi). I think Wild Leopoldi is the most beauteful. I like all tipes. and have some nices ones now. They are friends. they come see you and beg at the glass. I give mine toy's with food in them. They will chase a bobber around for BW.s or BS. and find a way to get the food out. its really cool. There is a web. site for Wild Angel. www.freshwatertropicalfishonline.com/ I like what they have. And I'm an old man set in my ways. And that Way is Angel Fish...Hope you find what you are looking for....
