  • Any German or Bolivian ram keepers?

Do any boxers currently keep German or Bolivian Rams? How difficult are they to keep and what parameters do you currently keep them in? I'm thinking about adding 4 German blue rams in a 55g planted tank with some other community fish. I don't want to use RO if I don't have to and I've been doing a 50% water change each week with just tap and prime. Will they be ok? I've read some Internet articles but I wanted some opinions from local keepers. Thanks for any input

Bolivian Rams are easiy to keep. I always kept mine in normal tap tap water. they grew huge and healthy. they are not as picky as some of the others. they can be feisty too.

But sometimes they don't make sense

I just picked up some variant of the blue ram species. They went in the tank today. It took a long time to acclimate them because I read about their sensitivity towards rapid changes in ph and water hardness. I hope the plants in the tank help them settle.

They are picking on my discus for getting too close while they are laying eggs.

How have your rams settled in? I just purchased 3 today and into my 90g planted they went.

They are fine. Just dont like any other fish near their eggs. They will bully a 5 inch discus into sprinting across the tank to get the discus away from them. No eggs and they are super peaceful towards tankmates.

                  New eggs

First clutch in my tank. The eggs were gone after 36 hours or so. They laid again last night. They are in a 120 with a community of tetras and discus. So I dont think I will mess with them. But their colors are gorgeous the day before and day of laying.

So far my Bolivian Rams have kept their fry safe for 2-3 days- very protective of them and the fry know to stay under mom/dad.

                    It's a mixed tank with Discus/tetras/bn plecos

I've got 3 german high fins and they seem to fight amongst each other. I can't sex mine either

Post pics - I had one given to me - guessed female went and bought juvinile guessing male and two months later was right! Lucky I know but - I'll put in my two cents-

I liken the Rams to what I consider the most perfect car ever built.. The 57 T-bird..beautiful lines.. perfect sizing.. I lost a clutch of 5 GBR's due to inattention.. Next on my mission list is a 33L(got the tank, not the room!) for Apisto's and Rams.. Bill in Va.
