  • 13 inch oscar

alright guys so i have a 13 inch albino oscar and im at the point that im not sure what to do with him. He was given to me at about 10 inches about 2 years ago before i knew alot about this hobby. I put him in a 46 gallon bow front i picked up for 50 bucks. Little did i know this tank was way to small for him. Anyway now i know that and i bought a 240 but its going to be atleast another 6 months before i get it up and running.

So, Here is the probem, My incompatance to not knowing enough about this hobby and oscars a year ago has led him go get hole in head. Im suspecting he got it from a mix of being in to small of a tank, feeding him feeders before i realized they were not good to feed him, having a under gravel filter and it trapping nitrates in the tank, and not enough water changes.

Anyway now thanks to this web site and MFK over the past year i have learned ALOT about this hobby now and i feel horrable to what has happend to my oscar because i didnt know what i was gettong myself into. I have used jungle brand hole in head treatment with out much luck and i have tried again and curing him by getting metro pro and a hospital tank using lots of salt and heat. He is making some progress but i just don't have the funds or time to keep dumping money into him.

So, What should I do. Are there people out there willing to try to save him. should i give him away to someone that is able to cure him or just stop treatment. I would like to get some jack Dempsey and other cichlids and cats to let them grow for 6 months in my 46 gallon while i get my 240. I have talked to plenty of people about this and i know i will not run into hold in head again in the 240. I know how to care for the fish better now with a big enough tank, adequate filtration and the right care. It just sucks that this guy had to suffer.

Not only a Oscar but also a placo. Take them both to aquarium world on 290 and give them away that placo has 2x the bioload of a normal fish.
