  • can someone id this geo?

i was at aquatic world today and they had these GORGEOUS geos but they didnt know what type they were...i had to buy one and i was hoping yall knew what it was

my brasilienes on the left...if you look closely you can see he was born with only one ventral fin...i just noticed today when i was taken pics of them...will that be a problem?

also, my tiger bars seemed to have already nipped off one of the flowing parts of my new geo's (the one im asking to be identified) ventral fin (you can see in the pics)...do you think i cant keep tiger barbs with geos? i plan on getting one more of each of the ones i have and a couple more of some different types and maybe a couple severums and i have 3 large leporinus in the mail

i dont know where you heard that,
geos do best when with other geos, regardless of sp.

also, you can several geos in a 90g tank their whole lives, that however is a minimum.

it will be a couple years before they outgrow your tank.

the best way to bring out the fin growth, color, and overall health of geos is weekly 60+% water changes, a varied diet with the staple being NLS 1mm Cichlid Formula, they enjoy this food, because they get to sift it out of the sand, like the foods they eat in the wild.
i have had the best results feeding nls 1mm 3 times daily, with regular daily feedings of mysis and brine shrimp, with bloodworms.

dont just drop the cube of frozen food in, dissolve it in the water while its in your hand, this ensures all of the geos get a good amount of food.

also, most geos enjoy fresh zuchini and shelled green peas, these should be fed weekly.

if you do what i have stated here, they will grow fast and breed regularly, and get long trailers at a young age.

also, leave as much open sand as possible, just have the tank lightly strewn with rocks and a couple pieces of wood.

no plants fake or live, as tehy dont appear in there natural habitat very much, and tend to just take up space.

you need about 75% of the bottom of the tank to be open sand area.

              filtration is key!
i was running 3x eheim 2217 canisters, with 2x aquaclear 110's and 2x oddyssea ex350 powerheads with sponge filters.

this was on my 125g and it wasnt even enough.

these fish if not given proper above mentioned conditions, are very prone to both hlle head and lateral line erosion, and neotropicl bloat.

you can have ~6-8 geos in your tank no problem.

just keep an eye on the brasiliensis, the one you have is a male and he will become very territiorial and pretty aggressive when mature.

but he should still be fine in the longrun.
