  • 29G planted tank

I have been wanting to post the pic of the 29G planted tank I started that is housing my two Discus, 1 Apisto, Cardinal tetras, 2 O-cats, 2 Albino plecos and a handful of shrimp. Still trying to grow out the front plant. I trimmed it down and replanted it around the tank. The CO2 and lights have made the plant in the back grow like crazy and it looks totally different then it does in my moderate light no CO2 tank. I dont really remember the names of the plants. The one in the foreground looks similar to baby tears or giant baby tears.

The  plant in the back looks like some sort of Hygophilia...I noticed some crypts in there too... is the plant in the front actually baby tears, or does it just look like it? Be sure to post more photos of the tank as the plants grow in... looks like a great start!

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

          Re: 29G planted tank

You are adding Co2 and using an air diffuser at the same time? I don’t think is a good idea perhaps your fish suffer a little when you added Co2 for the first time, but using a co2 indicator will prevent you from having this problem.
If you want to add air to the planted aquarium is OK to do it at night when the lights are of and your plants are breeding o2.
Don’t be afraid of using C02 is not so bad when you really understand it.

Yeah I havent had the time to test to make sure that there isnt a problem with the air quantity during the day. I was initially having problems with air circulation even before adding the CO2. I had a thread on here. In short I have a Eheim Ecco 2232 on the tank but after a few hours the fish would come gasping for air. I tried this but I noticed it was at night but I didnt think I should have that much of a problem with filtration. So I took the cheap and easy solution and droped the air pump in. I will take some more pics soon. My Discus loves hiding behind the drift wood and didnt want to have their pics taken. What is HM?

                  Re: 29G planted tank

So I tried turning off the pump during the day. And the plants provided enough O2 for the fish no problems all day with lack of air. I turned it back on just now to make sure I dont have the problem later since they will not be producing any more. I think I will go and get another timer for the pump so I dont forget to turn it on at night. Crazy thing my pleco decided it was a great idea to swim up the outflow of my lily pipe and I can see him down the tubing just eating up the algea. I thought about getting him out but I will see if he will get himself out since he can move around in there.

Here is an updated pic of the tank with a nice shot of one of the Discus just before I mowed the lawn again. There is almost complete ground coverage from the baby tears after I trimmed them down and replanted.

I thought you used a diffuser in conjunction with a Co2 apparatus? Shows how little I know about planted tanks....

I do have a diffuser in there it is on the right side it is the white plate glass object. I am not using the type of diffuser that injects it into the outflow of the filter. I put the Discus into my 140G he was only staying in here until I had the tank up and running. Thanks for the complements
