am I in the high light range?

I have the JBJ 12g DX with 48w.  I actually think this is mid/high lighting.

what do you guys think? Am I at the hi-tech range?

I need to know to figure out how much ferts I have to put in.....thanks for the help.

You need to fert what your plants tell you they need or go with EI.

I went to home depot and got an 18 inch 15w bulb for my 10g, it said it was just for 10g planted tanks. I am not sure but it sounds to me like there is too much light going in to your tank. Don't take it from me I would see what other people say.

A std. 15w fluorescent bulb from HD over a 10g is like barely enough viewing light IME/IMO.

Oh no I turned it on and it can almost light up my whole room.

Just because it lights up the whole room does not gauge much of efficiency to sustain plant life in a tank of water.

A flood light will light up most of a pitch black street but will do minimal for anything partial in size as far as photosynthetic life form.

What kind of light are you talking about? CF, MH, t5, etc......

if its from home depot, i assuming the lights are really booboo.

Yeah, as we talking about while at my house.....i'm just going to go with EI and see what happens.....but i think i might have to do a little less because i got some slower growers.

I think you get the regular T8/10/12 bulb that is normally found in some shop lights.....just in a different kelvin/color which is more "suitable" for plants.....

I think Fishboyt's talking about the GE "Plant/Aquarium" T8's - it's about a 2,800k bulb.  They're great for growing algae - don't ask me how I know   .
