  • Moss trees?

I have decided to create a scape with manzanita and moss but I am wondering what the best kind to use would be. Any suggestions or tips are welcomed!!! . . . And also looking for a good local source for mosses [emoji3]

Many types of wood can be used. The key is getting the wood to sink with some types of wood. Avoid cedar.

I am getting some manzanita from one of the guys on fish box so I am trying to figure out what the best kind of miss to use is. I was thinking willow moss or xmas moss. Thoughts?

There are a variety available in the hobby and we have used many of them, depending on your desired growth pattern will help in determining the appearance of the project. Christmas, Peacock, Willow, Flame, Fissidens (any of the species really), Spikey, and rose can all be effectively used. Many are not available locally and must be sourced via the internet and can be quite expensive. Locally Aquarium Design Group has Spikey, Christmas and Flame Mosses currently. Think FG had some Christmas moss and That Aquarium place had some as well. Online Han Aquatics is a reliable source and usually stocks 15-30 different types, they can get pricey some fetching upwards of $40 for a 1"x1" SS mesh square.

Awesome, they are doable with a little work and grooming. Also cleared my inbox saw you had tried to PM me.

Its free and open to anyone. Members enjoy discounts at many local sponsor shops and the meetings are generally free (unless its something like the Moody Gardens trip), run by hobbyists for hobbyists. We are the only local group that gives monthly meetings and have been trying to get the meetings scheduled at least 6 months in advance. I try and post them up here and on the FB group. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or join the FB group, all our admins and officers are active there and a few are here. We are celebrating ou 10th year in 2016 and have a lot of cool surprises and exciting meetings planned!

Yeah, your in the group so everything is all done LOL. Just mention your a member and they might ask to see your in the group, just show them your FB group showing membership. FG can be a bit tricky (one we have had some issues with) so ask to speak with daniel and he will take care of you. All the events are listed here in the GHAC section and in the Events area of the FB group so you can hopefully plan a bit. All the meetings are free (except the Moody Gardens one and its just ticket cost) and family friendly. We try and mix up different topics and cover a broad range of things, from SW reef to Planted, to ponds, to Rift lake and also team up with other more focused groups like HCC, TA, STASK, MARSH, HAS, FOTAS, and quite a few more.

Also are doing a fun pico (5 gallons or less) planted aquarium build currently with 3 lfs judges. We have a SW and FW category, that started on January 1st. Submissions need to be in by Jan. 7th at midnight, then let the tanks grow out and take final pics March 7th and judging will be after that. Really a fun competition among us to try some new things and play with a few new techniques in smaller spaces. Its free to enter and can even be a Mason jar on the windowsill with a plant in it, as fancy as you like
