I have heard that using a coarse sand would work best for plants. Is this true, or does it vary per plant?

Either works fine. Several people use pool filter sand which is a smaller grit size. Plants will do fine in any substrate. Although some substrates alter pH and some plants can't handle certain parameters. Root tabs are generally added to all substrate unless it already has nutrients like ADA Amazonia and Akadama, etc. You could still add root tabs to those substrates as well.Originally posted by Carse Thompson View PostI have heard that using a coarse sand would work best for plants.
