a sponge works, also a plate... just run the water slowly till it gets a bit full.

Mine is incredibly weak, I learned a few things along the way though. The hardest part is filling the tank and not moving the substrate all around.

Well my rocks are smaller than I anticipated, but I went ahead and put it together.
