  • Plants should be happy but...

Ok I just got all the lights for my 45g. I am doing LED, and as soon as the other tank is cycles I will transfer my cichlids to it and start the tear down of this tank and the planting. I am pretty sure I will have enough light. 2870 lumens, I think will be fine. I am jut worried about my fish going blind lol!

Any pics?! One of the HAAPS members just got some LED strips and they are awesome...the 4 strips are every bit as bright as the 2 150watt MH's he had, and they grow the plants well. I forget the name of them though...

I have been looking around on other forums and they are saying I will need about 6000k. The Reef Capable alone is 10,000k. So I am not so worried about that. I will be tearing down the tank soon. I have all of the substrates I want and I and designing a "Fake Sump". If anyone knows of a good easy photo hosting website that I can easily link to I will be happy to document my progress. As long as nobody gets too upset at my pace. :P

Its sounds like you may have misunderstood what K rating or Kelvin rating is. Kelvin is a measurement of the color temperature e.g. If you have a bulb thats 6000k it will be a more yellow/white light and 14000K will be more blue/white. so, argueably, for plants a K rating of 6000K is best.

                3.5g - Surge Tank
10g - Ichthyophthirius multifilis breeding colony

It would seem I am mistaken. Thanks for the Info. I guess I will have to just try it and see. I know I have lots of light. I will go back to the drawing board.
