  • Low tech planted tank

Here is my low tech old fashioned 45 gallon planted tank - med light, no CO2, throw in a capful of Flourish Excel with water changes (about once every two weeks or so). Just 2 easy plants - Crypts (wendtii) and anubias. The anubias are really thick in the tank and flower almost continuously. It is not nearly as dramatic as the planted tanks people put together these days, but it is very easy to maintain.

Oops - forgot to mention the old fake planted background. It is a photo of a planted tank - there are even a couple of platies in the photo! This tank is definitely retro!

looks really good! nice and simple with only the two types of plants. that fake background doesn't bother me near as much as that fake rock.
      25g - Reef
      3.5g - Surge Tank
10g - Ichthyophthirius multifilis breeding colony

Actually, its a fake rock cave. I put it in there a long time ago for something to hide in, and just never bothered to remove it! (It serves no purpose for the current residents).

I don't mind the fake rock/cave thing, although it might look better with some anubias growing on top of it, or some crypts around it. :)

I'm still trying to get my head around how this is a 45g - that crypt is HUGE!

            So the dimension of the tank are 36" x 12" x 24"?

What are the fish other than the angels in there?

I like it, and the plants are obviously happy in there as well!

Yes - the crypt is big! The actual dimensions of the tank are 36" X 12.5" X 21". In addition to the 3 angels, there are about 12 Danios (purple passion and zebra), a normal pleco, and I just added 4 dwarf chain loaches yesterday.

Awesome! I was wondering what those rainbow-looking fish were. How are you liking your loaches?

I really like the little loaches. They are very active and not shy at all. I'm thinking about getting a couple more, since 4 really isn't a school.

I have that exact same cave, my pl*co fry love it! I was thinking of putting anubias or fern on top of it after I have the money to start another tank and switch my 20 gal to a planted.
