We will be doing an IP treatment within the next few weeks, but most crawfish that are bought in stores and used are raised in Louisiana and I've seen their 'farms'. Ditches on the side of the road differ very little indeed and I've seen them trapping in the ditches themselves. Its about as safe as using feeders or ghost shrimp from a LFS, they are raised in ponds that could just as likely have anything in them as any ponds or ditches around hereIn the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Most crustaceans don't harbor anything that could transfer, otherwise its very visible. There is a possibility of bacteria or something, but any bought from a 'reliable' source other then a tank raised could just as likely be affected. Snails are trickier, but some quarantine should alleviate most of everything. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Agreed. Right now the craws look healthy enough, not a lot of difference from craws moved from ditches in LA to the grocery. I won't feed live food after the IP treatment coming up next week, at least nothing live I haven't personally raised. But for now, I'm thinking she has IP's anyway and might as well have a treat or two.Originally posted by mnemenoi View PostMost crustaceans don't harbor anything that could transfer, otherwise its very visible. The "spinefish" looks like a juv. green sunfish. Your baby balooga looks like a bullfrog tadpole.Originally posted by eklikewhoa View PostSo finally got around to meeting up mnemenoi with kiko so the three of us went bayou fishing and this is what we came home with.
What I brought home out of the bucket we caught.

Got a few of these G.I. Joe rock fish

Banded pygmy sunfish
This thing is like a line shark or something

Blackstripe Topminnnow
This is a NickintxFish it has glitter all along side of it.

Golden Topminnow
This has to be some sort of spine fish, look at the dorsal fins on this guy.

Finally, this guy was the catch of the day, baby balooga whale

Some driftwood we collected

Had a blast kicking it with mnemenoi and lookslater! They have freshwater prawns in their planted tank from their last collection trip but I forgot to take pictures of it.
