    Re: BETTA MACROSTOMA

I'm in on splitting the order if you still need somebody.

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

I know someone who comes from Sarawak and go there each year on vacation.   Wonder if I can convince him to pick up like 20 of them and take them with him back to the US ?
Are they illegal to bring back if caught ?

Last i checked exporting from Sarawak was legal, but not from Brunei.

The guy whom i got my original pair harvests them from Brunei, treks across the border at Temburong and smuggles them over to sarawak to be exported.

            Re: BETTA MACROSTOMA

            hello Marc,

Long time no see. How are you doing?

Yes, I'm still alive, and my macs breeding program keep expanding. I have ten 10gals glass fry tanks, three 40gals custome made acrylic tanks with removable dividers for breeding, one Truvu breeding tank, two Seaclear acrylic 55gals grow out tanks, two Truvu acrylic 125gals tank for grow out. Two 50gals water barrels, one for RO one for tap.

I have the capacity to house 20 breeding pairs now, but I only have 11 females, which make my breeder all reverse trio, which is good so the males don't burn out. But, there are only 5 females are breeding, the others are still too young.

Yes, these are F1 from my wild caught pairs. The parents are from the unknown strain, which I assumed Sarawak. I bought them from one of the traders in Indonesia. The parents came in really bad shape with internal diseases, when I came to you for help on treating them. I was unable to save one female, which died of hunger strike.

The F1 macs juvies I got from you, bred with my F0 Brunei strain gave F1.5 (or F2) offspring. One of them died due to jump out of the tank, it happened that this one is the infertiled one, I think, because he ate eggs 6 times, while his sibling kept his brood first time.

I bought a true Brunei F0 trio, and they are breeding now. I only had 2 success spawns from them because the females are very aggressive toward the male. My old breeding technieque doesn't work well on them, because if the female doesn't see the male for days, then the male become stranger to her. Maybe I will have to use clear divider for them again, so they still see each other instead of out of sight.

            Tri Kim Le

              Marc,

I'm working on making a b. macrostoma caresheet and how to breed b. macrostoma sheet. Maybe, when I got them done, I need your help and feedback. They are going to be technical writing because my English is not as good, I don't' want to write fragments or spellings. Also, I just did a draft of how to mix tap water in a flow chart format.

All I can say is that your tap water must be a lot softher than ours

Yeah I was going to say Tap water in Houston is pH around 7.8 to 8.4 depending on where you live

                        Re: BETTA MACROSTOMA

Hmm... Actually.. i start with pH 7.8 here around the galleria, and i kinda use a method similar to the chart.
I add enough acid buffer to crash the pH and then add back alkaline buffer to raise the buffering capacity. But still my pH swings by as much as 0.5 between night and day in a planted tank.

OK - so I need to
fix the leak in my 20g long
beg borrow or steal a high flow rate filter
buy or build a small juming fish proof cover
assemble and install my RO system

locate some plants, snails or CAKs that are happy with super low pH.
I need some help here guys

I have a RO/DI I have to install as well.
For something that requires such low pH I would not start the tank unless it's with the use of ADA Aquasoil.
I think when it comes time I will also utilize ADA's peat filter media.
