well, if the storm did nothing else, it brought me a little magic

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Lets make some lemonade from this lemon.
I've read other accounts of this from fish breeders across the country. One zebra pleco breeder up in NY state has documented consistent spawns accompanying a low pressure fronts. His theory is that a low is usually accompanied by rain, which swells watersheds and washes food and nutrients into them. A few days to weeks later there is a bloom of planktonic critters and algaes for newly hatched fry to feed on.

His success with zebs, bns and farlowella cats is unreal.

The Mother Nature gives and IKE takes away

IKE with the loss of power (air to my sponge filters) and my forced absence caused me to loose most of my A01 spawn and all of my B02 spawn
but Mother Nature has been kind to me on this rainy day.

Good news, as I was tearing down the B02 spawn tank  (orange & black double tail) I found 4 fry (3/8") still alive.

Well I haven't been able to post these last two weeks because my keyboard cought a virus.
But with all the weather fronts moving in and our of the area, my bettas have been having an orgy.

                              Cool!  :)

I started carding my betta imbellis pairs yesterday, and lastnight I went to check on them and one of the males wasn't in his jar. So, I looked around to see if I could find him then I looked over and saw him on the floor. He fell 3 feet to the ground and flaped on the ground another 3 feet. I put him in a 1 gallon tank with some stress coat, and today he is doing better.

                                Re: breeding bettas

The closer they are to wild stock, the higher they jump.

Most jump when threatened or stressed.
Turning the light on in a dark room has been a major cause.
Give them a night light (full moon)
most craft stores sell a plastic mesh for sewing type craft projects and it can be cut with sisors to fit your container.

It also makes it easier to do water changes, just hold the cover on and upend it over the sink and pour the water out
the mesh keeps the betta safe and then you can add new water without having to net them.
(do not shake like a salt shaker   )
