  • Pond Liner

I am going to remove my pond and make an above ground pond because my son is asking for swings and currently my pond is in the way, i will make a simple above ground, 2' feet above and dig 1' feet down for cooling; 10'x8' pond, bare bottom and maybe just some lilies and just use my current equipment.

My question is can i use the old liner or should i just buy a new one, the current one is about 8 years but it has a warranty that it can last up to 20+ years.  If i buy a new liner does anyone know where locally is the cheapest to get it?

    I'm looking for a 18' x 20' or 20 x 20' 45mil EPDM liner

    Re: Pond Liner

I would lean towards getting a new liner. 45 EPDM is pretty tough, but there's bound to be stressed points from stretching, sharp twigs and rocks and sun exposure especially if it was a bare bottom pond to begin with. Digging a liner out for a new pond would probably void the warranty. Also, if your new pond is going to be a different size and shape, there's no guarantee that you'll have enough liner unless your new pond is going to be a lot smaller and shallower.

As far as cheap liner available locally, there's a place in Spring called Lowes Water Gardens that has different thicknesses available in bulk. Don't remember the price, but it was cheaper than the chain builder stores. There's also Nelson's in Katy. I would just give both places a call and see who's got the best prices.

      Re: Pond Liner

I just ordered a liner for my new pond that's going in this month.  Even with checking around at the local places, including Lowe's Water Gardens (which is 10 min. from me), the best price I found was online.  I got a 20'x20' for $200 including shipping.  I got it from bestnest.com  It was here w/ in a week.  Don't know how long their free shipping is going on, but it was definitely a better price.

My pond will be 7'x10'x 3' deep. It'll be partially raised, with bottom drain, skimmer and skippy filter.  It'll be home to lilies, goldfish and my lone koi. Photos will follow on construction later.   We're pouring the collar tomorrow.
