Wrong. Koi may jump even if the are well acclimated especially if the are in large groups. Also keep the net on for predator protection. Many people say that plants are enough, but they are not.

      Re: Koi Question

My $0.02 :I think it is the size of the pond.
I raised Koi in a 15' diameter above ground pool. As far as I know none jumped out unless I was trying to catch them. I would get into the 15' pool with 2 big nets; get fish between the nets ;and the 2" Koi would pop 2' into the air to get away.
I also have swordtails in my pond; my 40' creek with a few 4" waterfalls seems to give them enough exercise; they frequently go up the river, but do not jump out of the pond or river.

        Re: Koi Question

I agree.....I think if they are happy where they are at and nothing goes after them they stay put for the most part.

I have a friend with a smallish pond and if you see the monsters that are in there and knew how long they have been in there you would flip!

Mine some times jump during feeding. I think the jumping also has a lot to do with the stocking levels.

              Re: Koi Question

At one time I went to a pet store to buy some koi. The guy that was helping me was having trouble catching the koi in the net because they kept jumping around in the indor pond they were staying in, so yes koi do jump.

                Re: Koi Question

I've been very fortunate and found both my koi/goldfish on the pavement next to the pond, I don't know how long they have been there catching rays, but I'm sure they both where happy to get back into the water.
