Eggs in the 2nd tank have hatched! It's pretty cool to see there is a size difference already between the 2 clutches even though they are only a couple days difference. They are all White shells so when they get bigger I'll take pictures. Right now you can't tell anything.

The spiked top apple snail is legal to sell and keep in Texas. I would assume that is what petco sells. The spiked top snail does not eat living plants; the other apple snails do eat live plants which is why the are prohibited in Texas. As to identifying the snails, your pictues do not show the right angle. Go to applesnail.net they have an excellent pictorial on how to tell the difference between the different species.

honestly i have the same problem at my store... i tested the water for copper and its negative, and i have no issues keeping them at home, they are pretty easy. but at the store they just die. i think its because they keep them in a small tank (15g)with the koi, which are about 4-6in

oh yes. they call them "black mystery snails" and "gold inca snails" but under it clearly says pomacea sp.

Petco by me says they can't keep the lil guys alive. :confused:

( Pomacea Bridgesii ) Is the common mystery snail. They can get 2" . Other SP. get bigger then 4". I have seen an apple snail that took up a hole 5g tank. It's foot was close to the size of the bottom. Befor they were prohibited...

the big empty shells are ones i found in the creek behind my house, there are tons of them. all empty that ive been able to find. and the little guy front and center is one of my babies!

i too have tons of these... ive found that if you just leave the eggs alone they do pretty well. i started with one "black mystery" and one "golden inca" from petco, now i have over a hundred! ive put them in almost all of my tanks and they are great for keeping things tidy. anyone ever kept them with plants? ive heard they will eat them but mine only eat the dead leaves, making my life easier! other question, how are these so common at stores? this is from prohibited species list-

If you look around the tank you my find her. They can last almost two weeks out of the water.

My first clutch hatched and I've got 9 more laid I think. But my big moma snail has dissapeared. I guess she crawled out of the tank!

Had another batch hatch so I have 150-200 blue mystery snails now. They range from couscous size to pea size. I have another 2 sets of eggs that will hatch soon. I gotta start selling these ********.

If you do online fish auctions you'll probably be able to sell them. I've never had luck at the local fish auctions and some species are illegal to keep in Texas so you need to know what you have before you try to sell them.

The mystery snails are cool. I have had them for years. Even put a yellow with blue to gether. They came out with stripes but their baby's came out green. Kinda miss the way they look in my tank.
Never had much luck selling mystery snail. Every LFS sales them cheep. There is the club auction...
