I wouldn't just overpay: It is your money you earned it, why are you just going to GIVE it away because someones feeling gripey? So what, she didn't go out and work for the money, who cares if it's two bucks a day that adds up and next time it might be five bucks a day.. next time she might put a quarter jar in the kitchen, and every time you open the fridge you have to make a deposit for lost cooling. Seriously. you have to stop it before it goes any further.

now, before I sound like too much of a fanatic just do what ANYONE else would do. Divide the bills equally.. and if you really feel bad, kick in an extra ten dollars for your extra curricular usage (the tank) but I would be hesitant to do even that.

If that doesn't work, follow Lexi's advice, and go for the shin, on the upper middle portion about six inches below the knee (I have been kicked upon enough to know the ouch spot) or... if she's bigger than you, Call Dereck. If she's bigger than him.. then I suggest you offer to pay the whole electric bill and apologize for being so rude about it.  :)

Hey guys, I went ahead and emailed her dad....heres the message let me know what you guys think:

Hey Mr. W,

I asked C a question about utility bills and she referred me to you. I'm fine with paying them by tomorrow, that was never a problem however the amount she says I'll be charged for my aquarium (2.15/day x 7 days) does not fit the amount of power it uses. I've done the math on the power consuming components:

30W Bulb + 6W Filter + 22W Filter + 50W Heater + 5W Bubbler = 113W/hours

113W/hour x 24 = 2712W/Day

2712/Day x .00014 (estimated) = 0.3792 cents/day

.3792 x 36 days (weird billing period) = $13.66 for entire 36 day period.


$0.38/day is the absolute most the entire system of components could use if they were running 24/7.
However the two most power hungry devices (30W Bulb and 50W Heater) run significantly less than 24 hours a day, the light runs 8 hours and the heater less than 12. The price that has been arbitrarily chosen does not reflect the true power usage of the entire aquarium. I don't believe it is fair to bill me a full 36 days worth of aquarium power usage for a seven day period.

I am not the only one with appliances that require energy in the house however it seems that I am the only one singled out and charged extra for one. It doen't seem fair to be charged for one individual appliance while others are not evenly charged for various appliance that are used whether present or not.

We'll see what Mr. W says tomorrow hopefully...he's been more understanding in the past while C has always overreacted making it personal rather than keeping it strictly business.

Her dad leveled with me and I WON! I appreciate when people see where you're coming from...so much. He asked if charging me $0.25/day for every day I was actually gone was acceptable a total of $6.00 for 24 days. I can live with that. So glad I'm dealing with Mr. W now rather than C.

be prepared for repurcusions(?) "you went to my dad and now I`m mad" stuff.........it will be there........I wouldnt leave anything lying around that can walk away....As a leasor-I had some people move out and take the washer/dryer with them to louisiana,called they said "oh my bad we thought that was ours" yeh right........they returned it when i told them i would file on their dad because he lived with them and was still here intown.......$$$$$$$ is the biggest enemy of friendships!!!!

I'm slightly expecting some repercussions...however if this is strictly business all I have to say to C if she brings it up will be:

"I'm sorry but that's between me and your dad." Since she decided utilities were causing too much trouble and asked him to take over. At least she no longer has any particular power over me regarding anything financial! Thank goodness   Guess I'll have to keep you guys updated on how things go. I don't plan on stealing the washer/dryer anytime soon...they use too much power/water anyway
