  • "Holy Toledo, Batman"

i woke up today to find that my Kenyi cichlid was bright, YELLOW.  he was blue when i bought him, then he started getting a little yellow on his belly, but today he is flared up and brighter than any fish i own.  He's also very aggressive today.  He has locked jaws with my bi-color and my strawberry peacock who are both twice his size.  The female in my tank is staying right by his side, but she is a bi-color also, is it possible they are trying to mate?

How big are they? He was blue when you bought him because all Kenyi cichlids are born looking like their mother.
Fish are people too, they just have gills.

both the male and female are about 2.5-3 inches.  i did not know that.  He was a "tester fish".  my brother brought him home to test the water in my new tank and he made it so i put him in with my other africans and he's a beast now.

Can't find anything on the age they have to be to spawn, but I'm sure they can.

I've had some experience with Kenyi, we've had a few broods in our tanks. The babies take about 8 to 9 months to mature, some will show their male colors early, but proably are still to  young to breed for another couple of months at least. If your second kenyi is showing any yellow, you have two males....the females, NORMALLY have no yellow on them.

When you say Bi-color are you talking about the fish like Bi-color 500 or that the fish is two colors?

Male most likely.....unless you have been messing with their genetics? .. :)

Well technically the Bi-color and Kenyi shouldnt be getting it on but I guess you can never put anything pass mother nature
