Re: new 100 gal set up..Finally

I have inspected this piece of furniture... it is 90% solid wood... the top is 3'4 inch and sides are 3/4"  the back I cut some 2x4's to allow back support..... the pieceis made by Broyhill and designed to hold a hugeTV,.....I know a TV doesnot weigh 1200 lbs... as the tanks does..... The feet are made of solid turned wood.... there is a center support that you can screw to get the sag out of the top.. I adjusted that leg and the gap is gone.. no more sliding paper... I will make an extra support for the middle tomarrow... In my best judgement... I would say this is a good piece of furniture and I would bet I could park a car on it.....(I have been wrong before) I have a 60gallon and the stand is pure particle board with a couple of thin pipes on the corner areas... my oppinion is the major support is the corners... that has got tobe the strongest part of the tank... I do agree that middle support would not hurt... and I will make that adjustment.... my arguement would be that if the stand I have that is made for this 60 gallon tank is made of cheep particle board..... then the Broyhill solid wood furniture should by far surpass the weight distribution of a 100 gallon tank..... I would be interested to see how many people now check their tanks to see if they can slide paper under it... Please post if you try it... I shall go to sleep now and hope my tank is still intact by morning...LOL....
Had about 900 gallons now I am tired and selling them off...

thats a very nice tank - great aquascape, but the whole paper under the tank is scary, good thing i don't have any large tanks - my largest will be the 65gallon that i am about to set up, hope it won't be a big deal on that since it is considerably smaller than the one's u guys are talking about!
          65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
          30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted

          live and let live

You all just put this thought into my head. Did the check on my biggest tank which is a Oceanic 125gal show tank. Its the stand with grayish black spots, looks like granite top looking.

Anyways I can fit a whole sheet of 8 by 5 pcs of paper and sliding it 30 inches back and forth on the front side. The back side, theres a support in the middle that I can't slide anything thru but to the right and left of it, I can slide the 8 by 5 pcs of paper thru. And all the corner is touch, can not slide paper thru.

nice job  phish.. I would bet that 9 out of 10 tanks tested will give the same result.. I have 2 that do (did) that . Large tanks.. I thought (think) it is normal.

That is why I had always used the styrofoam between the stand and the tank...add a piece of trimwork to hide it or paint it black...
