Re: new 100 gal set up..Finally
I have inspected this piece of furniture... it is 90% solid wood... the top is 3'4 inch and sides are 3/4" the back I cut some 2x4's to allow back support..... the pieceis made by Broyhill and designed to hold a hugeTV,.....I know a TV doesnot weigh 1200 lbs... as the tanks does..... The feet are made of solid turned wood.... there is a center support that you can screw to get the sag out of the top.. I adjusted that leg and the gap is gone.. no more sliding paper... I will make an extra support for the middle tomarrow... In my best judgement... I would say this is a good piece of furniture and I would bet I could park a car on it.....(I have been wrong before) I have a 60gallon and the stand is pure particle board with a couple of thin pipes on the corner areas... my oppinion is the major support is the corners... that has got tobe the strongest part of the tank... I do agree that middle support would not hurt... and I will make that adjustment.... my arguement would be that if the stand I have that is made for this 60 gallon tank is made of cheep particle board..... then the Broyhill solid wood furniture should by far surpass the weight distribution of a 100 gallon tank..... I would be interested to see how many people now check their tanks to see if they can slide paper under it... Please post if you try it... I shall go to sleep now and hope my tank is still intact by morning...LOL....
