  • Oceanic Ultimate 215 Gallon (Cherry)

So I am sitting looking at Discus pics on line and I am eyeballing this tank. My wife is going to shoot me!! I think I am getting to itch again though. We now have a whole room which is going to become a sitting room/ BIG*** tank room!! I think I will be going back with a planted Discus again. I don't think I will have sump this time though. I was using way to much CO2 on the last one. Does anyone have a planted tank with MH lighting? I would love to see how the MHs compare to PCs. How has everyone been doing? Perhaps I should have put this in the Lounge!

Re: Oceanic Ultimate 215 Gallon (Cherry) Need help!

OK! I am working on a cost sheet for the 215. I need some help. I am looking for the best lighting and substrate for a planted Discos tank that is 29" tall. The last tank had ECO-Complete in it. I think I want a lighter substrate.

Walter how is that t5 set I help you pick up down town? Oh PM me with your phone number again. My last phone is in pieces.

Does anyone here have planted tanks that would like to show them off? I need all the ideas before I start buying this time.

I sold some driftwood with my last tank. Rocket were you the one who got it?

Jason I love the T5 lights. Just make sure you order it without the bulbs unless they have the German bulbs.
Raul does have the drift that you got from me.
Go with a wet/dry with a 2260 enheim canister filter. Also add a UV & carbon block in line with the wet/dry.

If you go with the MH lights make sure you dont have a canopy or you will be smokin the fish.

I think you should stick with T5 lighting.  I have some pics of the Tek lights I had and the metal halides.  The mh are of course way brighter, but the cost of changing the bulbs every 6 months is to much.  They recommend 6 month on changing them, but I waited till a year since they still look bright enough.  The T5 does grow the plants well but slowly.

I was going to stay away from the wet/dry since it increases CO2 consumption so much. I figured on three smaller Eheim canisters each with a CO2 reactor on them. I was going for the reassuance of being able to take one out of service and not worrying about the tank.

If it was me & just useing canisters.
Get the tank reef ready put a 2260 on each side with a smaller eheim in the middle for back up when you have to clean one of the 2260's out.
