  • I got some GBR's from Fish Gallery / first tank post

Today I took my first visit to Fish Gallery downtown and I have to say I was quite impressed.  Their HUGE 5000 gallon setup was pretty amazing, I haven't seen anything like that outside a zoo.  Their other display tanks in the front area were quite impressive as well.  The only other fish stores I have been to are Fish-R-Us and Ultimate Fish, and I found Fish Gallery's selection and pricing to be very good.  I wish it wasn't an hour trip each direction, but that will probably end up saving me money as I won't go very often

Anyway, I got a pair of German Blue Rams, 1 male 1 female.  I managed to snap a couple pictures that turned out only sort of blurry and thought I'd share with you since I've never posted my tank here before.  This is my first tank ever, it's been set up going on 2 months now.

    Inhabitants:
    - 2 GBR's
    - 5 Harlequin Rasboras
    - 5 Bloodfin Tetras
    - 1 Bristlenose Pleco

    - Cryptocorene wendtii green
    - Java Moss
    - Water Sprite
    - Anachris
    - Micro Sword
    - Unidentified plant in the back middle

29g with Aquaclear 50, Coralife 65w pc, eco-complete.  Today I also bought the stuff for a DIY CO2 setup which I will assemble once I finish all this Cherry Coke, hopefully it will help with some of the algae I'm experiencing.

Full Tank Shot, colors are kind of screwed up, maybe because of the flash?

My immediate plan is to setup the CO2, and in the future I think I may get rid of the Bloodfins and get a school of Cardinals.  I also may get rid of my 3 smallish driftwoods and get a large stumplike piece for the tank (if anyone has a piece to offer I'd trade 3 for 1 :P)

This is your first tank?   8O

If so, you've done extremely well, and it appears that you really researched things prior to getting started in the hobby.  Either way, you've set up a very nice-looking planted tank, and I think you'll be very satisfied with how things turn out.  I know that I certainly am interested in seeing future pictures!

You've selected some pretty hardy and typically well-growing plants.  They should be rather proliferative in your tank, especially once you get the CO2 up and running.  If you need help with a DIY CO2 setup, don't hesitate to ask (even if you just want help drinking all that Cherry Coke  :P )

nice tank and fish, you have good taste in aquascaping

fishgallery is very nice, i go there to browse, but rarely buy anything because in most cases (there are exceptions), their prices are at least double compared to most other LFSs (they have to pay for all that overhead - nice tanks and rent for location), if you look around closely, you will see they have a lot of disease in their tanks including dead fish that are never taken out of the tanks and is being eaten by all other "healthy" fish in the tank that also end up getting sick and die, just my personal experience, but i have had some good luck with some of the fish i have gotten from them
          65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
          30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted

          live and let live

I agree, it looks great! I especially love that you seem to have done your research into fish. You could probably even add the cardinals to the existing population, being that it's a 29g.

As for the unidentified plant, it looks like you have a few anubias in there. Is the unidentified one the taller one in the back? It looks to be another anubias or some kind of sword...what are the roots like?

Edit: You can try taking pictures of the tank without the flash. If you turn off the room lights and just rely on the tank's lighting, the pictures will usually turn out pretty well.  :)

Re: I got some GBR's from Fish Gallery / first tank post

Thanks for your compliments.  Yes, I did a LOT of research before setting up this tank.  At first I was going to go with saltwater, but it wasn't exactly in my budget at the moment so I went with freshwater.  I got the tank/stand in September of last year and have been reading about freshwater planted communities for a few months, and finally got the tank up and running at the beginning of March.

Mzungu, I have Anubias barteri v. nana in my tank as you spotted.  The unid. plant is the bigger one in the back, it doesn't have a rhizome and it has a fairly large root system, so I was thinking it was some sort of sword as well.  It's gotten much bigger since I got it.
