    Re: Filter

I'm actually starting work on a wet/dry to do it all. It's basically a sump, running bio media like in a SW sump with live rock. It will hold heater, bubblers, Purigen, etc. Mechanical filtration via a big block of sponge.

My setup is the same exact way right now but with a rubbermaid tub. Heater, air stones, purigen, media, and big block sponge for mechanical.

Would you kindly recommend a good HOB filter set up for my 450 with BG? Would you go with AquaClear? Or will Wal-Mart brand Aquatech good for this as well?

Due to the subject on the matter, i would highly look into the Wal-Mart brand of Aquatech reason being is price, easy to work with, and cheap replacement media. With that being said the flow provide by these highly UNDER-RATED filters will make the BG very happy and give you lots of fry. Thank you

              Sincerely,

              Luis

Ok thank you. Sounds like a logical explanation. Will let go of Eheims and big wet/dry in favor of a few Aquatech HOB filters. Thanks Luis. You're such a big help to us noobs.

It's a temporary setup. Rubbermaid tub with ceramic rings, plastic pot scrubbies, seachem matrix, heater, and purigen. The media is just sitting in the tub. The pot scrubbies are floating right now. Purigen is inside of a tetra whisper 10i. It's just something thrown together because I had most of the stuff on hand. I tried to put floaters in as a nitrate sink but turns out the light I'm using isn't enough to penetrate to the sump so they're starting to whither away. I have some organic cleaners (mollies and guppies) that came from another tank and my plecos, cories, and irwini are temporarily in there. No pics right now but I'll be home later. Will post pics then.

I plan to shove a 75 or 55gal tank under there to use as a sump, but for now that will have to do.

Well the plecos might stay, but the cories are going to another tank. The mollies and guppies are actually good at eating detritus. Whenever I see them, their bellies are bulging and I don't feed them. I was thinking of tossing in a bunch of RCS in there as well to eat detritus.
