  • any info on Odyssea CFS 500 Canister Filter

Im looking for a used fx5 and not finding one i saw this filter and was wondering if any knew anything about this filter if its any good

I heard good things about this and some not so good. They have a few people review it on YouTube. Seems to be comparable to the fx since its basically the same design sorta

I hear that the valves break if you're too rough, but at the same time, it requires a lot of effort to get them open. I was actually thinking about getting some. I would remove most of the sponge and add some better media.

be the test dummy. I mean the test person. Like how you test those jbj wave makers.

If theres a bigger version ill look into that and research a lil more may hold off a few weeks or so an just buy a new fx5 or possibly a 2260 just thought for the price its worth a shot and having everything set up and running sooner

I saw these for $90 at Houston aquatic on n. Shepherd and was thinking of trying one myself, but as its an oddysea product, I was hoping someone on here would test one out before I pull the trigger lol.
Would make a bad arse purigen reactor for the price.

I was going to get one last year and did quite the research on it.
Its not that bad but its no fx5.
here is what I research and gunner makes a compelling argument for it.

Earlier I mentioned that this filter had arrived and I would be doing a comprehensive test like I did for the Sunsun. Unlike the Sunsun the CFS 500 is a bottom pump design that pulls water from top to bottom and potentially from all directions if modified. Modifications to increase this filters...

Well here it is guys n gals..., the CFS-500 canister filter. I know about 5/10 people who use this filter are upset about it because of the nozzles, o-rings, locking nuts cracking and braking, etc. And the other half say they couldn't want anything better for the price.. (Please excuse the cell...

and yes, I read all of it many times.

Have you heard whether this is due to drying and cracking? Or is it something else?
If it is from drying, then I would imagine silicone grease which I use on my eheim and fluval orings to keep them lubricated would work equally well in this application.
