  • 5 Julie's die from rock

I have changed rocks every time they die. I have gone from hokey rock to slate, to lava rock. They all end up in some crack and die. What is your advise for rock choice, puls the dig under my rocks and get stuck.

Instead of looking at what rock could you use, what substrate are you using? Did you make a big enough layer? Did you securely place the rock (dig it into the substrate a bit)? I've never had a fish get stuck underneath a rock.

I put the base rocks in first then sand then I add the rest of te rocks. If you pile make sure you press around on the rock your stacking so they don't fall

O I did that. They spend the whole nights sleeping or digging holes. I have a rock right now that had3 inches of sand under neath it, it's all gone. I kinda think it's because they want caves and I don't have any. I have a female and male leleupi that are the main diggers. Also a male and female CALVUS that are the runner ups.

            +1

When I put my rocks in, there's close to .5-1" of sand underneath the rock and the sand is about 1-2" around the side of the rocks.

If there are no caves, you could make some with the rocks, just make sure you have the rocks secured.

Yea. I have my rocks on top of a egg crate then I pour the sand in so the base rocks can't really shift around even if the fish digs and shifts the sand around.

I don't use eggcrate, but I put the rocks in pretty securely and they can't really move it.

Even if I had like 300lb of rock, I wouldn't use eggcrate. Not saying it isn't good, just saying that I prefer not to.

Just a safety precaution I guess. These new tanks glass aren't built like the old school oceanics.

Yeah that's true. That is unless you get a custom one!

                            Too poor for custom tanks.

LOL same here. Although, they aren't that expensive depending on what you get.
