  • A few large tank questions

I've been bitten by the bug again and decided to put a large tank(150-300g) in my retail store(supplement store), but have a few questions/concerns

    1) is starphire glass as clear or clearer than acrylic?

    2) I've built stands for glass tanks up to 75g with absolutely zero issues, but was wondering if there is more or less concern when building a stand for acrylic tank? Meaning are they more or less likely to crack if there is a slight imperfection in stand straightness(for lack of a better word)

    3) I was looking on glass cages and noticed they offer commercial tanks that come with thicker glass or acrylic. Is this really necessary in a store like mine? Is it really going to protect it from breaking if someone runs into it or something?

    4) on a reef ready tank can you hook a large canister to piping instead of using a wet/dry? I'm guessing yes but have never tried.

I'm sure I will have more Q's later but that's it for now.

IMO. I like glass. Is it clearer I would say they are close to the same. Glass is easier to clean and harder to scratch. Not sure about a stand for acrylic but it does seem to brake easy. As for commercial tank? That would be a question for you insurance co. And yes you can hookup canisters in the place of the wet/dry but running a wet/dry would be best...

Thanks for the info guys. The glass is obviously cheaper, even with the starphire on front and sides(atleast on glass cages page)

Yes acrylic is ckearer. And stronger as well. Iv got a 100 in acrylic. For a stand just make sure u lay down some cork board or a thin sheet of Styrofoam. Yea they do scratch easier but for big tanks are much more manageable to move.

Do a little research on "glasscages.com" and you will find a lot of bad reviews. This is what kept me from order a tank from them. Their prices are hard to beat !

I've been doing that today and don't really like what I see. I really hate buying stuff like this that I can't see before I purchase it.

I agree with you on that . I have also heard of happy customers but its hard to ignore all the warnings .I would hate to end up on the wrong side of an "I told you so"
