Quockathon, I did that. No effect whatsoever! The geos do mind a thump though.

    • I thump my geos, lol.
I find cichlids respond the best to a good, well placed thumping.

      • Hey bee, those two Tapajos from the vid you posted are a definite pair.

The male looks like breeding condition is starting.
Breeding dress on males and females is the same.
They develop light zig zag or sometimes vertical lines on their flanks.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties with that tank. Did you ever set up a quarantine tank to accommodate any new additions? I remember you said you were transferring some of the few survivors into your nano. I can’t remember if you said if you were going to treat that tank for ich as well? If you don’t have one yet please consider a small simple Q-tank 10-20 gallons, lid, heater, some kind of filter. Maybe a flower pot or a piece of plastic pipe. I think a Q-tank will save you money and headaches in the long run.

The last time I had angels I was a kid—so I’m wondering with captive bred angels—would they be less likely to treat their tank mates as feeder fish or it would make no difference? I know with other SA cichlid piscavores that are captive bred and never given feeder fish, i.e. oscars they are much less likely to go after tank mates that are reasonably sized. It seems to me if you have wild caught piscavores that only know hunting for their meals and you provide them with smaller tankmates—they are going to see your lovely display tank as a veritable cornucopia of fishy num nums buffet goodness.

Any thoughts yet as to a long term replacement for the angels as your second showcase fish—or are you happy with the stocking as you have it know?

                that is kinda warm lol...

so do you still has them fishes...?

So you got roselines? How many did you get? How big are they? I'm sure you'll love them, especially when they get big. I have two adult ones, and they are among my favorites.

I see you got silver dollars, too. Did you return the angels already? Need a FTS now!

Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Thanks Harry. I've been borrowing a QT, 30 gallon, from Tim. The last 6 remaining emperors initially went into the nano because the geo was dying in the QT, and I started treating the nano for ich too, but it turns out I made a huge mistake. I pulled out the emperors cuz fish started dropping like flies in the nano. I know the emperors were killing some of the smaller fish cuz there were little bite marks on their tiny bodies. :( But also this strain of ich is something crazy cuz nothing I do seems to work... salt, Ich Attack, nothing. I think I'll probably end up losing all my fish in the nano and then I'll cut my losses, sterilize it, and start anew. Oh well.

As far as the main tank, I think I'm happy with the geos alone. I've got 5 red hook silver dollars which I got just for some distraction for the geos... and I ended up liking them a lot! They school super tight and are actually kinda cute. And the roselines are in there too, adding color and a lot of activity. They go right up to the geos and steal their food. )

Yep! Angels are gone and now all is right in the tank. Got my geos paired up, and I'm wondering if the remaining 3 are all male or if there's another female in there somewhere and I might get another pair. We'll see. I've still got copper in there so toward the end of the month when I'm sure all badness is dead, I'll do a huge water change, add the Purigen back, and add some large swords and anubias to the tank.

Yeah I know. Now that no one's shown any signs of illness for a while, I'm dropping the temp by 2 degrees every other day. Will stop at 78-80.
