Silver Dollars are from the region and possibly some of the smaller species might work, but they'd end your plants in no time... Any of the larger tetras could be plausible I suppose. Hemiodus? Spotted Headstanders? Metynnis? Flagtail Prochilodus?

Oh man. I love watching silver dollars, but yeah they'd wreck my plants. I could cut down to just having some swords and large anubias and those might be safe, but I love the look of taller plants. Maybe I'll go with fake ones. Heh.

The other fish are nice too but get really large. I'm hoping to go with something small enough to not get swallowed whole but large and fast enough to hold their own. And for that I may just have to stray from the biotope.

Sorry for your misfortune bee. Its these small hurdles that make this hobby worth it in the long run.

What do you have in mind for a larger schooler?

Dunno yet. I love Congos, but I've taken enough care to make this into a Tapajo basin biotope that I wanted to keep it that way. Unfortunately, the only other fish to keep with them from the Tapajo region would be lemon tetras, and I don't much like those. They don't school well either. I also love roselines, but those are from India. Maybe I should split from the biotope. Not sure what I'll do yet, but the tank is infested so I think I have to wait a good amount of time before anyone else goes in there.

Thoughts on larger schoolers?

So.......
I came home after a 24 hour shift to find every single one of my 28 rummy noses gone, and about 20 of my 25 emperors missing as well. The angels were looking fat and didn't want to eat at all this morning. The geos were happily swimming and eating, but OMG THOSE ANGELS ATE THEIR DOLLAR WORTH IN FISH!!



Anyway. Gotta get some bigger schoolers.
And on another note, the ich has spread to the remaining emperors, probably because they're stressed now that their numbers have been picked off. The rest of the geos have a few white spots here and there but are very active and running around and eating. The sickie won't eat. :( And she's absolutely covered in white spots now. Not sure she's going to make it but she's still swimming around a little. This really sucks.

Yeah, that's what I typically do unless they're not eating and I want to make the scent as strong as possible.

I don't have many small fish that would readily see and feast on it so the food would just clog up somewhere and add to the water quality

oh and with frozens, thaw them and strain what you can. Sometimes that food juice is really nasty.

Why would frozen cyclops become a problem?

I buy the sheets, recently saw the cyclops twin pack but I don't have anything that would eat that up fast enough before it became a problem.

Only frozens I would use is PEmysis, Rod'sFoods and Hikari Spirulina brine.

Do you buy it in sheets? Or just the small twin packs with the Cyclops?
