  • Aquarium Sand

Have one tank of this stuff.

Had my water tested last night and nitrate levels we within tolerance but on the high side of acceptable

Do i need to stir the sand up from time to time?

That's what I do. Stuff gets trapped under there.

Get a giraffecat. He will stir it for you.

          Makes sense.

I do it with my gravel substrate tanks

          Thanks

well sand is alot more finer than gravel, so with gravel you you can just vacum but whit sand i heard gas pockets or bubbles build in the sand.

Yeah, be careful of gas pockets. They can kill your entire tank at once when release. Make sure to have a giraffe cat stirring up your tank, or intermittent circ pumps, or corys (for smaller tanks), or shellies. Or you can just use the siphon to move the sand around weekly during your WC.

not will it stir it but will clean it too as they work as a vacuum.

You get anerobic gas pockets with sand and that stuff is lethal if it's been sitting too long.

New reason to buy some more loaches:mrgreen:

                            Thanks

yep this is why i went away from sand, MTS will help but then you have another problem unless you keep clown loaches or assassin snails. since anaerobic bacteria use nitrates, you may not have a problem yet.
